How to Automatically Monitor Mentions of Your Book Online

Short answer: set up a free Google Alerts alert with your book's title and your author name in quotation marks, so you get an email every time that exact phrase appears on a new page indexed by Google.

How to set it up

  1. Go to Google Alerts and create an alert with your book's exact title in quotes (e.g., "Book Title").
  2. Create a second alert with your author name in quotes, to catch mentions that don't include the title.
  3. Choose "as-it-happens" frequency if you want to know right away, or "once a day" if you'd rather get a digest.

Taking it a step further with n8n

If you'd rather centralize these mentions in a spreadsheet instead of just getting emails, you can use the RSS feed each Google Alert generates as a trigger in n8n, and add every new mention as a row in Google Sheets with the date and link.

Google Alerts is free and requires no paid account; its known limitation is that it only covers content Google has already indexed, so there can be a delay of hours or days from the actual publish time. Google Alerts documentation, 2026
